Nutrient Dynamics and Ecosystem Metabolism of Megacity Rivers: Influence of Elevated Nutrient Concentrations in Beijing’s Waterways

چکیده
This study evaluated nutrient flux (nitrate (NO3−), ammonium (NH4+), phosphate (PO43−), and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) at the sediment-water interface river ecosystem metabolism (REM) to investigate how these ecological functions vary in Beijing’s urban waterways. Three tributaries of River Beiyun were selected. Water quality varied across sites as each receives a mixture wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluents tributary inflows. A chamber technique was applied where water-specific concentrations measured two exposure times (3 10 min). Under actions physical biological processes, NO3− NH4+ primarily controlled by equilibrium concentration N-cycle. However, bioabsorption appeared regulate DOC flux. Specifically, ranged from −0.31 +0.30 mg/(m2·s), −0.01 +0.05 PO43− +0.01 −0.04 +0.13 mg/(m2·s). We nighttime slope regression estimate gross primary production (GPP) respiration (ER). Except summer, net (GPP+ER) less than 0 indicated heterotrophic reaches. Structural equation modelling revealed that dynamics water temperature factors driving REM. Our provides needed systems-based understanding vital processes improve in-stream management.

Invasive aquarium fish transform ecosystem nutrient dynamics.
Trade of ornamental aquatic species is a multi-billion dollar industry responsible for the introduction of myriad fishes into novel ecosystems. Although aquarium invaders have the potential to alter ecosystem function, regulation of the trade is minimal and little is known about the ecosystem-level consequences of invasion for all but a small number of aquarium species. Here, we demonstrate how...
متن کاملModeling the effects of nutrient concentrations on ecosystem stability:
The effects of nutrients on algal productivity are not transferred directly to production at higher trophic levels and can not be modelled as if they were. Rates of processes and time scales at different trophic levels require a modular approach to a comprehensive model of the Great Lakes. Predator growth is based ultimately on prey availability and life histories of predators. Factors that con...
متن کاملWater Quality Modeling and Evaluation of Nutrient Control Strategies Using QUAL2K in the Small Rivers
Background: Qual2k is a stream water quality model and was used to evaluate the water quality of the Kine-Vars River and assess the response of the river to nutrient management strategies. Methods: For that purpose, 7 sample stations were selected and surface water samples were collected in the winter and summer of 2012 and were analyzed for temperature, dissolved oxygen, biological oxygen dem...
